Rātā and the Waka
When creating this drama and literacy resource, we acknowledge the storytellers before us. Māori have a rich storytelling tradition which enables histories and culture to be passed down through the generations. Indigenous oral storytelling traditions bring stories to life through song, facial expression, voice and performance. Each new re-telling is unique to the storyteller. We have based this resource on two retellings of the traditional Māori pūrakau. These are Warren Pohatu©, Rātā and the Birds of the Forest, and Gavin Bishop©, Rātā and his Waka.
